ProxyHive

Proxies for web scraping

Rotate through 47M+ residential and 180K+ datacenter addresses so every request looks like a different visitor, and pay only for the gigabytes you move.

Recommended proxies

  • Rotate on every request for listing pages.
  • Use a session of 5 to 10 minutes for search then detail flows.
  • Target the country your audience lives in.
  • Compress responses to save gigabytes.

A setup that works

  1. 1

Start the scraper on datacenter traffic and log the status code of every response.

  2. 2

Move the targets that answer with challenges or empty pages to residential traffic.

  3. 3

Use sticky sessions only for multi page flows such as pagination behind a search form.

  4. 4

Spread requests over time and over many addresses instead of hammering one page.

Why scrapers need proxies

Websites count requests per address. A scraper that sends hundreds of requests a minute from one IP gets slowed down, shown a challenge page or blocked within minutes. Sending the same traffic through a pool of addresses spreads the load so each address stays well under the limits a normal visitor would hit.

Location matters too: a product page, a search result or a delivery estimate often changes with the visitor's country or city. Targeting keys in the proxy user name let you collect the version that a real customer in that place would see.

Residential or datacenter for scraping

Datacenter traffic is the cheapest at $0.18 per GB and the fastest, and many targets accept it. Residential traffic costs more, from $0.294 per GB, but passes the checks that block server ranges. Most teams run both: datacenter for tolerant targets, residential for the rest, with the same code and only the host name changed.

Keeping a scraper healthy

Respect robots rules and rate limits you have agreed to, set a realistic user agent, keep cookies per session, retry with backoff on 429 and 5xx answers, and watch the share of non 200 responses per target. When that share climbs, the fix is usually slower pacing or switching that target to residential, not more threads.

Web scraping: questions and answers

How many GB does scraping use?
An average HTML page is 100 KB to 2 MB with images off. One million pages at 300 KB each is about 286 GB. Turning off images, fonts and scripts in headless browsers often halves the traffic.
Is it legal to scrape with proxies?
Collecting publicly available data is lawful in many places, but the rules depend on the site's terms, the data and your country. Do not collect personal data without a legal basis and never bypass logins you are not allowed to use. Our terms list what the service may not be used for.
Which plan should I start with?
A pay as you go plan, because the traffic never expires while you tune the scraper. Move to a monthly plan once your monthly volume is steady.
